SCHOOL HISTORY
Keller Elementary is named for Thomas W. Keller, a longtime BISD administrator. Keller, a Brownsville native, served as principal of three district elementary schools, Cromack, Resaca, and Victoria Heights. For 9 years, he was the beloved principal of Stell Middle School. Keller eventually moved into district administration where he worked closely with Superintendent Raul A. Besteiro, Jr. to construct new schools and classrooms for a rapidly growing school district. Keller retired as Deputy Superintendent in 1990. Keller Elementary opened it's doors in August, 2009. Mr. Carlos Garza was named the first principal.
CAMPUS MISSION STATEMENT
Thomas W. Keller Elementary seeks to create a challenging learning environment
that encourages high expectations for success through differentiated instruction
that allows for individual differences and learning styles.
We strive to make children confident and creative builders of their future.
Our school promotes a safe, orderly, caring, and supportive environment.
Each student's self esteem is fostered by positive relationships with students and staff.
We strive to have our parents, teachers, and community members
actively involved in our students' learning.
CAMPUS VISION STATEMENT
Thomas W. Keller Elementary believes that every child is entitled to enjoy his/her childhood.
They should be valued for their individuality, culture and heritage.
They should be encouraged to develop their full potential in a stimulating and caring environment. Aims: We the staff, parents and community aim to encourage each and every child in all aspects of learning by:
Working together as a team
Providing a balanced curriculum
Catering for all abilities
Promoting curiosity and enthusiasm
Encouraging independence and confidence
Promoting logical and creative thinking
Encouraging respect for others and personal self-esteem
Providing an environment which is caring, stimulating and challenging.
We want our children to take with them happy memories of their early years as Thomas W. Keller "Grizzlies".
